Better Hearing Boosts Income?

Starting on a better-hearing journey improves your life in many ways, from overall health to mental health to relationships. As it turns out, there’s yet another area of your life that improves when you treat hearing loss: your career.

According to a study by the Better Hearing Institute, untreated hearing loss hinders performance, productivity, overall career success, lifetime earnings, and yearly earnings. In fact, depending on the severity of your hearing loss, you could be missing out on $30,000 annually.

Treating hearing loss, however, has the opposite effect. Read on to see how better hearing boosts your career.

You Earn More

The same Better Hearing Institute study mentioned above also reported that hearing aid use reduced the risk of income loss by 90 to 100 percent for those with a mild hearing loss, and by 65 to 77 percent for those with moderate to severe hearing loss. Furthermore, those with hearing aids were more likely to be employed than those without.

You Show Motivation

Before you even get your hearing tested, be your own advocate to your boss. By explaining your hearing problem and your plan to deal with it, you’re showing you can handle directly and confidently anything that could keep you from peak job performance.

You Improve Your Communication Skills

The Better Hearing Institute found that untreated hearing loss most strongly impacted phone calls and conversations with co-workers. However, almost 70% of participants reported that their communication skills improved when they used hearing aids.

You Have Confidence

A major study by the Seniors Research Group reported that self-image, self-confidence, relations at work, and life overall improved greatly with the use of hearing aids. Good relationships and confidence — two things that are crucial for success in the workplace.

You Perform Better

Even a mild hearing loss affects memory and brain-processing speed, per a study in the journal Hearing Review. That same study reported, however, that using hearing aids helps you regain your brain’s ability to process information.
